How to distinguish flame retardant MDF from ordinary MDF?

1. Appearance difference:

flame retardant mdf is a kind of functional fiberboard. The appearance is red, and the fiber is dyed red according to international practice, which is different from ordinary medium fiberboard.


2. Physical and mechanical properties:

The flame retardant of medium and thick plates is also medium fiberboard. It must have all the physical and mechanical properties of general fiberboard to meet the requirements of use. After the flame retardant is added in the production process, the fiberboard has a certain influence on the physical and mechanical properties of the fiber, especially the water-absorbing expansion coefficient. If a flame-retardant MDF board with a large water-absorbing expansion coefficient is used, it will cause delamination of the board, no veneer, or even deformation, resulting in engineering quality problems.


3. Functionality:

The fireproof fiberboard has the function of fire prevention and can prevent the spread of fire.


How to identify flame-retardant MDF?

According to the difference between flame-retardant MDF and MDF, the following analyses are carried out respectively:

1. Color.

Because the color of the fiberboard in the flame retardant is dyed with red dye, the red fiberboard is not necessarily flame-retardant and it is difficult to distinguish.

2. It is physical and mechanical properties.

The addition of flame retardant has a certain effect on the water swelling performance of the board. By measuring the water swelling coefficient of the board, it can be preliminarily judged whether the flame-retardant fiberboard meets the requirements for use.

The method to determine the coefficient of water swelling is as follows:

Water absorption and thickness measurement: For sawing templates with similar dimensions, measure the thickness of the test points on the template with a micrometer after numbering, and then soak in water for 24 hours. By measuring its thickness, the change in thickness before and after immersion and the relative expansion rate of the water-absorbing layer can be calculated.

3. Functionality.

The function of flame-retardant MDF is the fireproof performance. The simple detection method is to burn with fire to see if the flame can burn.


Simple flame retardant identification method: burn small pieces with a diameter of 2-3 mm (2-3 mm in diameter) horizontally at regular intervals, burning time 5 seconds, after 10 seconds from the fire, self-extinguishing without sparks, up to C level;

In addition, the burning time of the vertical burning sample is 5 seconds, and the sample after leaving the fire can spray sparks within 5 seconds, which can reach Class B.
